Have you ever heard of sensory rooms? They are awesome spaces in schools that can make a huge difference for kids with sensory needs. Imagine a space where a child can relax, explore, and regulate so they're ready to take on all of the educational tasks for the day.
Our sensory room, while helpful for our students, needs a serious makeover.
While it has some items, such as gym mats and a crash pad, I am hoping to acquire some additional items that would greatly benefit ALL the students on our campus, spanning from preschool-aged to 5th grade.
What sort of items are on our wishlist? To start, a sensory swing with a hanging stand. This swing will help our students with proprioceptive input, which is the sensory information received by our muscles and joints. The motion the swing can provide, as well as the physical input can help calm a student's nervous system that might otherwise be dysregulated.
We are also requesting a pit to hold foam cubes, which can provide a soft spot to land. A new trampoline that is built to support our older students, as well as indoor balance beams and obstacle course steps would be helpful too.
Sensory rooms are like magical places where students can learn, relax, and be themselves without any added stress. By donating to this project, you'll be helping us create the ultimate sensory haven for our kiddos.
