My students need new and exciting leveled books to attract them to our library, improve their comprehension and fluency, but most importantly to ignite a love for reading!

My Students
Dr. Seuss once wrote, "The more that you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." I want my students to have access to a leveled library full of books waiting to take them on a journey of knowledge and growth.
I teach third grade at a Title-One elementary school serving predominantly low income families.
Every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students face challenges in their everyday lives that make it difficult to be successful in school. Many students are not fortunate enough to receive assistance, encouragement, opportunities, and resources at home. As their teacher, it is my responsibility to equip them with the rights tools and skills to be successful!
My Project
Due to the wide range of reading abilities and interest in the classroom, I need a variety of leveled books to meet the individual needs of my students. Throughout the school year I noticed that students only touched the books in the library when they were forced to. Students were not engaged nor excited to choose a book from our library. Many students often chose books blindly, books that were too difficult, or books that were too easy. That's when I decided it as time for an EXTREME MAKEOVER!
This project will replace some of the old and outdated literature in the library with new and exciting book titles at the student's individual reading level.
These books will also be used during guided reading to help students improve their comprehension and fluency skills.
When a child reads a book on their reading level, they feel more confident and are able to enjoy reading. This project will serve as a catalyst for growth and the expansion of their reading abilities. Please help make this project come to life!
