Extreme Makeover: Kindergarten Classroom Edition!

Help me give my students storage bins, baskets, and caddies to help learn organization skills and responsibility!

My Project

I teach a silly and sweet group of 28 Kindergarten students at a small public elementary school in Colorado. My students are kind, loving, and creative. I have a diverse classroom of students, including recent refugees and students with special needs.

As a Kindergarten teacher, I believe it is critical to not only teach academic skills, but also teach work habits and organizational skills that will help children be successful throughout their school years.

One area young students often struggle with is organizing and taking care of materials. Our table spaces get messy and it is hard for students to keep track of and take care of their learning materials. We waste learning time on lengthy transitions spent collecting and putting away materials. We need storage materials to help students organize their papers, folders, and other essential learning materials. We're requesting bins, baskets, a supply caddy, and storage seat cubes to give our classroom a beautiful, functional makeover!

These items will decrease the amount of clutter at our tables, allowing students a less distracting space to focus and work. It also will help me teach children one of our school values—responsibility. They need to learn how to be responsible for and take care of their learning materials. This is a lifelong skill that will stick with them, helping them achieve both academic and personal goals.
