it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever watched the show, "Extreme Makeover"? It is so inspiring to see how a makeover can put so many smiles on faces and change peoples' entire worlds. It is the little things in a classroom that can turn the smallest child's smile, into the most rewarding experience!
We are part of a high needs urban area in a very, very large school!
The Kindergarten classes are in a mini building, so we walk across a play yard each day to get to and from the "big" building. Our school has many English Language Learners and because of zoning, has had a sizable increase in the amount of children that are enrolled in our school. For us Kindergarten teachers, we have had the maximum number of students in our classroom year after year. We have been squeezing more desks to each table, and have had less and less supplies because of our school budget. With all of these obstacles that we've been faced with, our administration and staff has been continually optimistic about the future of our students and have tried our best to give each child the best education he/she could receive!
My Project
Again, it's the little things that make all of the difference. We are asking for a new easel. Our current easel is broken and doesn't fit any of our books on the ledge. It has become so difficult to read together as a class and do work on it! Along with our new reading easel, we would like highlighter tape to spot sight words we know in books we love! We are also asking for centers bins. We received a new beautiful printer from another Donors Choose project and we have been making differentiated centers! Now, we need bins to put them in, and shelves to put them on! These few supplies will completely transform our classroom and inspire all of the future Kindergarteners in their educational endeavors!
Imagine, a busy hive of Kindergarteners taking centers bins, reading their favorite poems on a brand new easel, and becoming little adults in their responsibilities and learning.
You can make this happen with this project, and not only for our current Kindergarten classes, but for MANY MANY Kindergarten classes to come! Thank you! :)
