My students need gift cards to purchase food at the supermarket for our Extreme Couponing project. All products purchased will be donated to our local food Pantry.

My Students

I teach Algebra 1 with Linear Emphasis. It is important that students learn real-life skills that they can apply to their lives in the future.

Students in my class analyze and use linear and quadratic functions as well as solve linear and quadratic equations.

They also study solving systems of equations, absolute value functions, and the use of regression techniques to model data. Real life applications are emphasized through both word problems and projects.

My Project

This project is for gift cards to a local supermarket where my students will be using coupon skills. The food they purchase will be donated to a local food pantry. My students will be tasked with purchasing the most amount of items with the least amount of money using extreme couponing strategies. Students will complete a sequence of in-class activities where they will learn cost savings strategies, as well as apply calculations which reinforce concepts taught in class. All products will be immediately donated to the local food pantry.

This project will not only teach students the importance of saving money and calculating the best savings, but it will also teach students compassion for those in need.

Last year, we delivered over $1,600 worth of goods to the local food pantry, which helped support our neighbors in need.
