My Students

Welcome to Extreme Classroom Makeover, the Library Edition! I need a new classroom library because I've taught 4th or 5th grade students for the last 11 years. Last year I was thrilled to be teaching 3rd grade for the first time. I love my new position, but my library needs some major renovation!

My school has a very diverse population.

50% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. For many of our students English is not their first language, nor is it the language that is spoken in their homes. Regardless of any economic or language challenges, we have students who come to school eager to learn and love to read.

My Project

Since I've always taught older students, my classroom library isn't appropriate for my third graders. I have collected some lower level books, but need more to really meet the needs of my students. An engaging classroom library is so important in third grade! These students have learned to read and are excited to try out their skills through independent, shared, and guided reading. The collections I am requesting are great for three reasons. One: they are already leveled by reading level. I chose the book sets that are best matched for my students' reading levels. Two: the book sets come with bins to organize the books by reading level. This will help both me and my students keep our library organized. Three: the books I selected are of high quality and high interest level. My kids are going to be so excited to dig in to these books!
