My Project
This school year I have focused on better serving our students with special needs. Specifically, I have focused on improving my strategies for our students with profound disabilities. I have read books and attended professional development on meeting the needs of our adaptive students.
Our music classroom needs more instruments which our adaptive students can easily hold, shake, strike, and play.
This project includes special T-shaped mallets for striking drum heads. It includes mallet cuffs which can be put on our existing xylophone mallets. This will make it easier for students with low muscle tone and limited grip strength to keep hold of the mallets. In addition, the project will fund a variety of small hand-held instruments for students with special needs to play.
Although I created this project with our students with disabilities in mind, the majority of these instruments will be used with all 700+ of our students. Kids of many ages and abilities will enjoy playing these instruments for years to come!
More than half of students from low‑income households
