This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Who was your favorite literary character? My favorite was Wilbur a beloved and brave pig from the children's story, "Charlotte's Web." It has been four years since I re-read the book, but Wilbur's character is still fresh in my memory. Most adults can remember a handful of literary creations that sparked their interest in reading. These characters enchant and challenge us on how we view the world. Unfortunately, many of today’s students are not making such connections. I teach literacy at an elementary charter school. Inciting a love of literature in children is difficult. My students have little exposure to literary characters and my school lacks the supplies to begin such an introduction. My aim is to create a basic library to introduce my students to some of my favorite stories and protagonists in children’s literature. I am selecting pieces which I believe will insight and motivate my students to invest themselves in reading. To begin this campaign, I want to introduce my students to two of my favorite children's stories "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Charlotte's Web". I believe that by beginning our literacy class with two of my favorite pieces, my students will be inspired to invest themselves in the world of children's literature.
