Kinder Kids are like sponges!
We are at a rural school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My class has a variety of students including many cultures, ESE and ESL students.
My 5 and 6 year old Kindergarten students learn so much throughout the school year. We want to read nonfiction which includes math and science.

My Project
My Kindergarten students will be learning to read this school year. Scholastic News keeps us up to date in current events. Nonfiction reading is much needed. Not only can we read and do activities in class, students can take the newspapers home to share with family members to reinforce reading, math, science, and social studies.
We love Scholastic News!
My class enjoys reading and looking at the pictures independently. Then, we read them together in class. We study the pictures as we go increasing vocabulary. Many of the newspapers include science and math activities, like graphing information or labeling. Also, we take the theme, such as insects or plants. and study them throughout the week.
