Help me give my students the most engaging education possible! With Draw and Write Journals, we will be challenging ourselves as we prepare to head into first grade.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a passionate Kindergarten educator in an urban inner-city district. My students are intellectuals, authors, poets, dreamers, scientists, mathematicians, musicians, and artists. In order to help them reach their full potential in our classroom, we need the tools to expand their experiences and maintain engagement. This is where you come in.
Many of our scholars face socioeconomic challenges in Cleveland.
As a Latina female who grew up with these same challenges, I have a good understanding of how they can impact one's success and academic experience. This understanding is what fuels me every single day. Fortunately, 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Nevertheless, these resources are scarcely extended for teachers and classroom resources. In a world where many obstacles exist, join me in the battle to make education a shining beam of opportunity and equality.
My Project
Our classroom is filled with dedicated scholars that enjoy working hard, collaborating, and even self-evaluating. Thus, we utilize journaling to reflect on our writing progress. Scholars are now coming to a close with their Level 1 journals and are ready to begin level 2. The cost of these journals are quite expensive and therefore, any help is beyond appreciated.
I have also selected the Blends and Digraphs learning station which are actually first grade skills.
Because our class has so many motivated scholars, they are always looking to challenge themselves. Therefore, I would like to introduce these important skills now so that they can go into first grade soaring! The other ELA activity I selected is the syllable counting and phonics folder game. Both of these activities are engaging and high quality. They will provide excellent opportunities for students to strengthen and reinforce these skills.
Finally, I selected the Subtraction tower of math due to it’s intriguing nature. As scholars build, they will complete subtraction equations. They will then utilize the procedures of Jenga as they dismantle their subtraction towers. I will pair this station with a hands-on manipulative for support. Each activity will be a fantastic addition to our classroom. Your support of this project will provide a direct impact on our classroom and success of our scholars. Thank you for your time in reading about my project.
