This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students represent a variety of ethnic cultures. Many of them are from low-income families. They attend a public middle school located in California. My students enjoy studying science and embrace the opportunity to engage in interactive activities with the use of technology.
Our classroom would benefit from having technology available for students to use daily in order to enhance a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum.
All of my students are in the 8th grade. I have students that are learning English as a second language. I also have students that are identified as gifted.
My Project
My students need more technology in our classroom to create digital learning that will help them become 21st-century learners. This project will allow my students the opportunity to use this new technology daily. It will allow more students the opportunity to use technology for digital learning.
Through the use of the iPad mini, laptop, and external hard drive, my students will be able to create projects using spreadsheets, slide presentations, participate in e-pal letters with students from a different school, and create instructional videos that not only demonstrate their knowledge – but, also can be shared to serve as a tutorial for other students.
My students will be able to use these devices to take pictures and download video clips that they will enhance their class projects.
The external hard drive is needed to save students work and group assignments. The external hard drive will organize and store student files, thus creating a digital portfolio for each student.
These new devices will enable my students greater time to participate in research and will provide my students with the opportunity to digitally publish their research findings, projects, as well as creating a digital portfolio in a way that will allow family members and others to view their finished products, no matter where they live.
Students are engaged by technology so these devices will be able to teach my students a great deal through research and publishing of their findings. If our classroom had more devices, then I would be able to allow my students the opportunity to become 21st-century learners. We would love to have access to more technology in our classroom which results in more meaningful and lasting learning.
