Help me give my students each a copy of the Scholastic News magazines to allow them access to engaging current events articles while simultaneously working on critical literary skills such as identifying key information and summarizing!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
It's never too early to start reading the news and becoming an informed citizen, but bringing news stories into the classroom feels like it can sometimes be a bit of coin toss... Scholastic News has a knack for captivating students' interests with highly engaging articles while also encouraging them to work on much needed non-fiction reading skills such as identifying key information and summarizing.
The donations to this project will greatly aid in sparking my students' curiosity and interest in current events, science and social studies using articles that are written and targeted for their specific grade/age.
Scholastic news also comes with videos, lesson plans for teachers, and reading comprehension templates (both print and digital) for students. These resources will not only help promote critical thinking but will also aid students in deeper learning and understanding of the world around us.
