Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have the opportunity to work with some of the brightest young minds in the world. I strive daily to become the best teacher that I can be and expose them to as much as I can while I can. However, many of our students come from low-income families and have little to no access to the ever-changing resources and programs that many other students have. Our school is located in the rural Mississippi Delta. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free lunches. My students don't have many opportunities outside of school to explore technology and different learning fields. In order for them to compete with the best of the best and be provided the same opportunities as the rest, we need help to provide them with the needed resources.

My Project

We are requesting the materials mentioned in order to expose our students to things that are happening in and around our school and community. We have decided to step outside of the box and create the first-ever classroom-based newsletter that will be distributed to the school and community leaders.

This newsletter will be written and established by the students.

They will interview, write stories, and take the pictures that will be included in the newsletter. We want our readers to experience it from a student's perspective. We have requested a laptop with software to write and edit the newsletter, the camera to take the pictures, and the printer to print the newsletter. We are excited to get this project rolling.
