My Students

I teach reading, writing and social studies to two incredible groups of fourth grade students. They are developing their love of reading and enjoy both fictional and informational texts. Every single one of them looks forward to their daily independent reading time and they are disappointed when the time is over. We will be working hard on increasing fluency, comprehension and stamina this year. Therefore, it is extremely important to have a wide variety of high interest texts to choose from. A student who loves to read is a student who will succeed!

My Project

In fourth grade, students are moving from the “learning to read” stage of early elementary into the “reading to learn” stage that they will use throughout their entire life. A classroom subscription of Scholastic News (grade 4 edition) would provide my students with current, high interest stories that are written at an appropriate level to develop the skills needed to read with the purpose gaining knowledge. Students will be able to practice using the text features found in the articles as well as stay up to date on important events happening in the world. They will also be have the opportunity to participate in collaborative discussions about the articles to increase higher level thinking skills.
