I teach an inquisitive, motivated group of advanced fourth graders who learn by questioning and creating. Design and innovation are integrated into all we do, and the goal is to provide hands-on experiences so that learning comes to life. Ours is a collaborative classroom where students work together to make sense of the world around them. Through exploration and problem solving, students are better able to understand and make a difference in the world they live in. Learning in our class is an adventure!
My Project
My students have a great desire to know what is happening in the world around them. Whether it's politics, sports, art, or literature, kids crave knowledge about the world around them.
Scholastic Scope magazine will put the news of the day at my students' fingertips and help them to become more critical readers and writers.
Using Scope magazine, students will learn to analyze articles and read more critically. With the arrival of each issue, students will form teams, will read articles, and will take different positions on the information learned. Using the information from the magazine, students will learn to debate issues. In addition, with Scope magazine as a mentor text, students will learn how to more effectively write their own information articles which will lead to the production of our own class newspaper.
