Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a combination 2nd and 3rd grade classroom of gifted children. The students in my gifted classroom are able to process information at a higher level than most students their age.
In my classroom, we focus on exposure to science and math-based job opportunities, STEM projects, hands-on lessons, and project-based learning.
The students in my class need less repetitions than most kids their age need to master information, so we are able to move at a faster pace than their grade-level peers.
My Project
Scholastic News is a grade-level appropriate weekly magazine that will help my students gather the background knowledge they need to participate in meaningful discussions about current events. With the information in these weekly issues, my students will have the information needed to write essays, create timelines, inspire further research, hold debates, and so much more!
My goal as a teacher is to help develop the skills required to help my students become well-informed citizens.
The Scholastic News comprehension questions will also help me assess their reading comprehension and plan necessary interventions for students who struggle to read and comprehend nonfiction text.
