My Students
Smiles, laughter and learning are the first three words that come to mind when I think of our busy day in Kindergarten. My students strive to be strong, independent readers. New books will freshen up our current titles in our classroom library and boost enthusiasm.
I am the proud teacher of an amazing group of kindergarteners in NYC.
My students, their families, and school are as dynamic as the surrounding neighborhood and thrive on the diversity of opportunities our school provides: enrichment classes, focus on the arts, farmers market, after school program, and much more. I have the first sibling to enter school and the baby of the family whose older siblings check on them during recess and lunch. I love that my students are energetic, imaginative, and excited to learn.
My Project
Every day in my classroom the students engage in Readers Workshop. This workshop provides opportunities for me to meet individually with students and work with small reading groups as the students read independently or with a partner. The new books I am requesting will help my students stay focused longer and put their new reading skills to work in new texts.
My students love their independent book shopping days, when they select "just right" books that they will read and practice for one week.
I currently do not have a large enough selection for the students to vary their choices and keep them interested.
