My Students
How many times have you been listening to a story and zoned out because it was completely boring? I don't want that to ever happen to my students! I want to make books come alive in their minds because they're so exciting!
My students live in a high-poverty neighborhood in southeast Virginia where the majority of their education is learned only in the classroom.
They attend a school that has a 90% free or reduced lunch rate and sometimes the meals at school are the only food they will eat all day. My school is in the middle of a high-crime neighborhood and most of my students come from single-family homes. Providing a stable, trustworthy, caring, fun atmosphere for my students is all they ask and I do all I can to make those dreams come true.
My Project
I have requested a variety of different read aloud books that I will be using during my whole group reading block. I will read these books and tie them to different strategies and skills that my students will be focusing on. They will also have differenciated activities that they will complete based off of their reading level about the books read each day. After these books are read to students, they will be placed in our classroom library for everyone to practice rereading with a buddy.
It is very easy to collect different books as a teacher.
However, it is very difficult to collect books that are meaningful read alouds that not only engage students but also teach them throughout the story. For several years now, I have read excellent books that my students have loved learning from but have had a hard time collecting them for my classroom library. I am so thankful Amazon has these books that will impact my students love of reading!
