Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of teaching a special group of students. They range from the age of 14 to 21. My students have various disabilities. The disabilities range from being learning disabled to having a physical or a cognitive disability. My group of eager learners do not let their disability stop them from growing and learning. Every day is an adventure in the classroom and being able to give them the physical tools to get ahead and grow gives me great joy.
The students in my class come in every day, excited and ready to learn new things!
They are eager to see their friends. They are eager to use the materials that are not available to them on a daily basis at home. Seeing their faces glow when they see new things in the classroom makes my day.
My Project
My class is filled with different types of learning disabilities. The students are on many different reading levels. If we can get these different types of graphic novels for our classroom library it will enhance the level of interest in reading. These books have titles that will captivate my students. Therefore encourage them to pick up a book and dive right in.
Graphic novels have been known to boost self-esteem.
Self-esteem is a major part of students lives. The graphic in the novels will allow the low leveled readers to feel comfortable with understanding what the book is about. With your help, we can make reading fun again for my students.
