My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I have some students that are new to our country and speak little to no English. I have other students that come from struggling households. More than half of my student receive free or reduced rate lunch. The demographics of our area are constantly changing. More and more of my students are now living with extended family because of financial hardships. They all come to school ready to learn and eager to overcome the challenges they face each day.
My Project
The books I have included in my project are in high demand with the age group I teach. Our librarian can’t keep these books on the shelf and students are always disappointed when they can’t get them. These books will also help with our character development lessons. One of the best ways my students learn is from a story. These stories will teach them about honesty, stealing and fairness. I look forward to building my classroom library a bit more and helping students develop a love for reading. There is no such thing as a student who doesn’t like to read. They are just students who haven’t found the right book yet. These books could be the “right” book for my students.
