This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Reading is more than just a skill for the classroom—it's a skill for life! It’s about understanding the world, staying informed, and making meaningful connections between what we read and what we experience. This is why I want to bring Scholastic News magazines to my 5th-grade students. With engaging, age-appropriate articles on current events, science, and social issues, Scholastic News provides a window into the real world. These magazines help students become informed citizens by teaching them to analyze what’s happening around them and make connections to their own lives.
Using high-interest topics, the articles not only strengthen critical reading skills like comprehension and vocabulary but also spark curiosity and meaningful discussions.
By reading and discussing relevant news stories, students can build a stronger understanding of our world and their place in it. This project will help turn my students into thoughtful, lifelong readers who are excited to read—and to learn about the world!
