As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many speak different languages such as Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese at home, and only speak English at school. Despite these challenges, they are most eager to learn.
Many of my students come from single-parent families or families where both parents have to work.
My students are very energetic and creative. Many of them like to spend lots of time on computers. Our school serves students in grades TK-5. Our goal is to prepare our students for middle school and beyond!
My Project
The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my class, especially during math and reading. Both during lessons and workshop time, students come to the rug with whiteboards and dry erase markers for guided practice. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is that the markers never seem to last long. The students are constantly losing the tops or they do not correctly put the tops back on so the markers dry out. Or, students do not make sure the top is on correctly before pushing with all their might and squishing the tip!
By donating to this project, you will help me provide the students with dry erase markers that they never have to look around for the tops.
They will be able to focus on the lesson being taught instead of worrying about where the top is and not destroying the tip when putting the top back on.
