My classroom is filled with bright, energetic, and eager-to-learn third grade students. I teach at a low-income/high poverty rural school district, and our resources are quite limited. Daily, I attempt to creative, budget-friendly ways to keep the learning and growing alive and engaging!
In order to learn about the world around us, we need a classroom subscription of Time Magazine for Kids.
Currently, teachers in my school attempt to create lesson plans and units from scratch. We scour the internet, analyze the standards, purchase our own supplies, and hope to provide our students with the best possible education. Due to financing, the only other option we have is to use our fifteen-year old textbooks, which are majorly outdated.
If we receive TIME magazine, we can be sure the information is credible journalism. The content will be age-appropriate, and up to date. The informational subscription can be read through digital or print copies and includes scaffolding for varied leveled readers. An additional bonus for the students is the online audio feature to help students with unfamiliar words. This well-designed magazine would be an amazing resource for my students!
My Project
These Time for Kids magazines and the accommodating resources will provide my students with acess to current events in the world. The magazines are age-appropriate and correlate to the Common Core Standards, meaning the resources will align to their needs while teaching them all subjects. Students will expand their literacy skills in comprehension, questioning, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and contrasting with a variety of passages. Instead of reading these magazines once and moving on, they will be utilized as the most up to date resource we have and used frequently with working and reading activities. It's Time for Kids to read about this amazing, constantly evolving world!
