Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the incredible honor of working with a dynamic group of hard working girls. Every day I am incredibly inspired and motivated by them.

My class consists of 29 amazing second grade scholars.

Most of my students receive free and reduced lunch, and some come from households where English is not spoken. They all come from different circumstances and some face incredible hardships that might deter others from learning. However, my students continually demonstrate a love for learning and a sense of resiliency every day that inspires me to be the best teacher I can be.

My Project

My scholars have been working hard all year long to develop their skills in reading and writing nonfiction texts in our Reading and Writing Workshop! I have been beyond impressed by their interest and love for learning across all different content areas.

My class has been particularly interested in learning about the world that's around them!

From the Brooklyn Bridge, to Arctic Animals, my students show excitement for every topic that I've introduced to them. Many of my girls also take it upon themselves to do extra research outside of class on our learning topics!

I want to capitalize on their love for nonfiction and the world around them by introducing high quality, nonfiction magazines to my students. From these, my students will be able to learn about a variety of topics, and also about different nonfiction text features.

This knowledge will set my students up for success in future grades. It will also help to inspire and continue their passion and love for learning!
