EXTRA! EXTRA! Get All Your Facts Here! (PART I)

Help me give my students high-interest, leveled nonfiction books to pique their curiosities about the world around us, helping them make new discoveries and grow their knowledge!

My Students

My students are the most caring, unique, and energetic students you will meet. All of my students are diagnosed with different disabilities, and many of them are English Language Learners (ELL) as well. They come from low-income families and receive free school breakfast and lunch. Despite all this, they are filled with curiosity and are always eager to learn. The students in my class love to engage in fun activities, especially those that are hands-on.

My Project

With the past few projects, I have been fortunate enough to gather an abundance of high-interest fiction books for our classroom library. However, I realized that now our library is lacking books in the nonfiction section. Although following a character's journey, and letting your imagination run wild is what motivates students to continue reading, it is equally important to have children be curious and discover the world around us through nonfiction books.

With these leveled nonfiction books, I will be able to teach my students important reading skills of summarizing, finding the main ideas of sections, pages, and books, and synthesizing information to gain a deeper understanding of the content.

These books will help my students form great reading habits and will motivate them to strive for the higher reading levels. My students can also bring these books home and share with their families, which will in return create memorable discussions and build a better reading life for all.
