My Project
Our school serves students who come from a variety of backgrounds in an African American community. 99% of my students receive free and reduced lunch. I have students who live with grandparents, foster parents, single parents, and we even serve students who are homeless. Our school is undergoing some significant changes this upcoming school year; fifth-grade students will be added to our middle school. As the school counselor, I do a lot of interventions with students based on emotions and/or classroom behavior. Having items to add to the regular classroom environment will allow the student to stay in class and get the "extra" intervention without being removed from class. Bouncy bands, fidgets, and art supplies give students extra incentives to stay on task and in the classroom. Having extra supplies also allows for the possibility of creating awards to give to students when they master a skill or a personal goal on their intervention plan.
