Writing is both essential and hard. Writing is essential because it demonstrates true mastery of a language. Writing is hard because my large population of English language learners are trying to be proficient in a second and sometimes even third language.
To stimulate writing and literature responses among my diverse group of students I need to set up an engaging writing center. To this end, I am requesting bordered paper to allow the students to publish their finished work in an inspiring way. I am also asking variety of writing paper both to interest the students in writing and to stimulate them to adequately match their finished products to their creative writing.
Additionally, my language learners and struggling writers need visual images to enhance their writing and so I am requesting paper that features a frame outline, so they can literally "frame" their successful writing pieces in a meaningful way. Finally, I am asking for decrocrative paper to entice my kinesthetic learners to be more involved in the writing and publishing process.
While paper is a necessary staple, please be assured that we are a very "green" classroom and I promise you that paper is vigorously recycled and scraps live to see another day in a project, as edging, etc. So this paper, if generously donated, will be used carefully and with thought.
What I hope to do is inspire my students to write qualitatively and quanitatively. A blank white page sometimes isn't enough to stimulate the imagination and I am hoping that you'll consider giving my students the paper they need to be expressive in their writing.
