Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that motivate them to do their best!
My students are high energy, enthusiastic and excited about learning!
They are an incredibly grateful bunch of kiddos and I cannot wait to see the excitement on their faces when they see their new materials!
My Project
Our students are consistently being held to high academic standards through standardized assessments. Unfortunately, being from urban homes, many of our students have not been exposed to certain topics. By providing these students with materials that can help them to better understand what they are reading, to make inferences, find context clues and so much more, we will be setting them up for success.
Furthermore, giving these students fun, alternative ways (such as conversation dice, self-help books, and writing topics) to express themselves in both personal and academic ways will help them to develop the writing and conversation skills they will need to answer any question.
You may notice that there is a wide variety of academic level materials for this project and I cannot express how important having such differentiated materials is to our classroom environment. These materials will help me to reach ALL of our students during Language Arts and the Personal Development aspects of the school day. Some of the great and diverse materials such as the self-help for kids book set, conversation cubes, and writing prompt cubes will help these students to get started with expressing themselves. Other materials such as phonics cubes, the words ladder phonics set and big box of sentence building will help them to put onto paper how they feel and what they think. I cannot wait to see how these materials help them to express themselves!
