Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are a full spectrum with a diverse campus in race, culture, socioeconomic status, and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students, grades 7th through 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically our students are approximately 87% minorities with 45% being Latin American, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander. Twenty-five percent of our students are currently an English Language Learner.

Over 75% of our students come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, but their thirst for knowledge is fierce!

My Project

Color Theory and Animation are two of the most complex topics I cover in my art classes. There is more than just explaining that needs to happen. Visual demos with light and light disruptions are necessary to convey understanding for a lifetime. I need these science tools to express the lectures in Art but also to show my students that Science and Art are tied together in understanding the world and what they see.

Please help my students have live tangible demos that can help push understanding!

Prisms help push the understanding of the visual light spectrum and let students see relationships with light. Having a light projector to show additive color in action with explain better than a lecture. Stroboscopes help show how flickers or visual disruptions create animations and movement with images. All of these tools will enhance my well deserving students' understanding far greater than a video or basic lecture.
