Help me give my students the amazing opportunity to create handmade books using what book artists use: gesso for preparing their papers for paint and creating stunning visual pieces with acrylic paints, specialty papers, and more!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a curious, creative, and innovative bunch who come to school each day ready for the next set of challenges. They are eager to learn more about the world they inhabit. My students are interested and concerned about the social issues in the world they are learning about. They have developed an ever-growing sense of compassion to help those who have been hurt by hunger, poverty, and homelessness.
Sixty-one percent of students at our school are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and many children speak another language at home other than english.
Because of this rich, multi-cultural family background, my students are continually exposed to various perspectives, and they are eager to engage in conversations and projects that will lead them to a greater understanding of how others in the world live, work, and play. Our school and classroom is a place where students also benefit from our vibrant arts program in the four domains of the arts: visual, dance, drama, and music. There are also after school clubs in which any student may participate for free or a nominal fee.
My Project
The materials I'm requesting will introduce my students to the art of handmade books. In this fast-paced world, they will learn the slow art of creating works of art in which each step is a thoughtful process of thinking about theme, audience, and self-expression.
In this book making project, students will explore their burgeoning identities, ideas, thoughts, and emotions as they learn about the ancient art of bookmaking and book binding.
They will also create individual pieces of mixed media artwork with these materials, as they learn about various art techniques and the choices artists make to fully express their ideas.
