Expressing Our Creativity Through Arts and Crafts Makerspace
Help me give my students the materials and tools such as muslin, beads, embroidery floss, and jewelry making tool kits, needed to enhance their creativity through our Arts and Crafts Makerspace Program.
Ours is a Title I school located in Brooklyn, where families struggle to find employment, housing, and recreational opportunities. As such, I have dedicated myself to doing whatever I can to help them succeed.
My students are energetic, curious, full of questions, artistic, talented and fun!
They love being involved with projects that
challenge them to think outside the box. They arrive at school every day bursting with new ideas and willingly take chances to grow personally, academically and artistically. They truly are an inspiring group!
The children absolutely love learning, and experimenting to uncover new and different ways to learn, and approach challenges with fresh thoughts and views. We engage many different strategies such as team work, and Makerspace, to ensure that this fantastic group of young people's learning needs are met. They are very excited about learning and growing, and I am thankful, and equally excited about working and growing with them.
My Project
Studies show that Makerspaces in schools allow students to invent, explore and use their creativity in positive ways to showcase their talents, enhance their artistry, and satisfy their curiosity in a safe and productive environment. This allows parents the ease of mind and concerns, knowing that their children are in a safe and creative environment, free of the dangers that can sometimes plague students outside of the safety of the school.
The muslin fabric, embroidery floss, bamboo hoops, needles, beads, strings, and other tools requested, will be used by the students to create embroidery, and jewelry projects of their choosing.
