My Students
My school is located in East Tennessee and serves approximately 550 students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a Title I school, with over 60% of our families qualifying for free or reduced lunches.
My students are inquisitive, creative, and eager to learn. They love to build, explore, and invent using hands-on experiences. They are fun-loving and inquisitive, always willing to try new things.
I see each student in the school once to twice a week in the library for forty-five minutes each time. When we are not reading, we are creating and building our real-world knowledge through the use of our makerspaces and projects.
My Project
These materials will allow those students who prefer creating crafty products to be able to express themselves and also walk away with something they have made. We plan on using these materials to create jewelry, bookmarks, ornaments, and origami items. These types of activities allow students to be confident in their creativity by allowing them to create a product that is theirs to keep. Hands on experience allows students to be successful and allow their confidence to build by "making it themselves." Many students have expressed their excitement about the opportunity to make something that they can give away to that someone special.
