This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I would like to start an exciting initiative for our elementary students that aligns with our school's commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. As part of our ongoing anti-bullying efforts, I propose organizing a project where our students can design and personalize T-shirts with positive anti-bullying messages.
The students will create T-shirt designs that promote kindness, inclusion, and anti-bullying sentiments.
By engaging in this activity, they will not only enjoy a hands-on artistic experience but also gain a sense of pride and ownership in their work. They will use various art supplies and techniques to display messages of anti-bullying, which will encourage self-expression, enhance creativity, and promote a sense of community and belonging among the students. After the T-shirts are designed, I will ask students to give feedback on each other's work, focusing on understanding the message and perspective of the designer. This will prompt them to think about how others view kindness and bullying.
We need T-shirts that will serve as canvases for the students' designs and positive messages. This project will foster a sense of community and pride as students wear their personalized designs, promoting positive messages throughout the community. It is not only an opportunity for creative expression but also a powerful tool to build a positive school culture. We believe that these personalized T-shirts will make a lasting impact on our students, reminding them daily of the importance of standing against bullying.
Outcomes will be measured by observing changes in student behavior during and after the project. Looking for increased instances of supportive interactions, helping behavior, and expressions of empathy among students.
Teachers will analyze the messages chosen by students in their designs. T-shirts that prominently feature messages of empathy, kindness, and support can indicate a deeper understanding and internalization of compassion.
