Help me give my students a diverse classroom environment and library that reflects who we are. The books highlight historically underrepresented voices in literature, while the art supplies are to help students create a unique, representative classroom.

My Students
Many of you know that I've been on a leave for a year. Well, I'm coming back and I am so excited! After being out of the classroom for a bit, I have a lot of new ideas that I am excited to implement. And that's where you come in!
My class has always been a thriving place, filled with art, teamwork, critical thinking, and learning around every corner.
My students are a diverse group of learners, with more than a third from low income families, many language learners from various backgrounds, and even a new group of students from our dual immersion English-Spanish elementary school program. I am excited to see how we can all work together to create an inclusive classroom that celebrates all the diversity in our school and community.
My Project
Diversity is everywhere around us and yet, in a lot of English classrooms, we still haven't fully embraced the multiple backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our students. This is especially true in California, where students really need to hear their stories and see themselves reflected in their classroom.
This project is meant to give students a more diverse classroom environment and library to reflect their diversity.
For many students, reading books with characters who reflect their own identities can be life changing. By selecting books by and about women and people of color, I hope to help students see themselves in their English literature.
The same goes for classroom environment. I would like to use the art supplies to create a personalized, diverse environment that reflects our multicultural, multilingual classroom. Your support would allow me to create a space in the classroom to express themselves artistically.
I would like to thank Google for championing the #ISeeMe campaign, which supports projects from teachers of color, women STEM educators, and projects that help students see their diverse identities reflected in their teacher’s curriculum. I hope that this project does all three and helps everyone who walks into my classroom - teachers, students, and families - see themselves reflected.
