My preschool virtual class has 16 Hispanic children who are four years old and come from low income immigrant families. Their families struggle to provide their children with a safe and rich environment for them to live and learn.
I have noticed in my remote learning class how the students listen and pay attention to the songs and music we play during class.
They have shown their love and interest for music. But, they do not have any musical instrument in their homes.
I know by research that music is an important pedagogical component that allows children (especially at the young age) to develop their cognitive skills which will help them in learning math, and phonological awareness. I want to give each student a musical instrument that help them in their overall development. I am sure my students will benefit greatly.
Please, dear donors, help me in providing my students with a musical instrument and introducing them to the world of music and the opportunity to grow musically.
My Project
My students appreciate the music. They want to learn and perform with musical instruments. During class, students follow rhymes and songs the teacher makes by clapping hands. They will improve their listening, motivation and learning if they had an instrument to perform. Having an instrument handy at home, they will perform it more frequently, and in our remote class, they will be willing to play while the teacher teaches the basics: going slow, fast, and stop, as well as some easy musical rhymes. By practicing an instrument, the students will build the self-esteem they need to be confident with their musical talent. They will become more engaging in learning sounds, letter sounds, and musical patterns. They will increase their engagement and motivation to perform and create new beats and sounds at their own pace.
By providing each student with an instrument, such as a bongo drum, cymbals, or a tambourine, my students will increase their motivation, attention skills, and love for learning and music.
They will have the opportunity to perform during our distance learning as a group and/or at home during their own time.
Most importantly, is the opportunity the students will get by having an instrument to practice, play and enjoy the art of music.
