Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students that I work with are not typical high school students. Many live in foster care or are being raised by relatives. School is where they have a sense of belonging. Now with distance learning, it has been hard to keep my art students motivated.

My Project

Digital art has been a challenge, but adding pens, oil pastels, and pencils for self-portraits will allow creativity. In class, we share art supplies, but we can't share them when working from home. Having good project pens, oil pastels, and graphite pencils will be a great asset for at-home learning.

Art helps students work their way through a very emotional and stressful time.

Hands-on learning helps students get in touch with their surroundings and feelings and having the proper equipment at home will allow them to express themselves freely and not just digitally.
