This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The world is a complicated place, and there's a lot of division between people. The performing arts tend to unify people in a way nothing else does."
My students are in a Title I school.
Our school is not located in the safest of areas. These kids may not have the best material things in life or have the same benefits as others, but they come to school each day with a smile on their faces and ready to learn.
My Project
We have learned about various types of art: music, poetry, dance, song, and performance. Students in this neighborhood do not have much exposure to the fine arts. They are secluded to what is in the neighborhood. We are requesting funding for buses so these students can attend a performance at the Smith Center of Performing Arts. It is a great opportunity for these students to be exposed to the arts, but we do not have funding for transportation. If they are able to attend this performance, this may open a whole new door for their future they may have never even imagined.
Students have learned about the arts in the classroom, but most have not had the chance to experience it.
If students are able to attend this performance, they will be exposed to a whole different world. It may inspire them to have a future in the arts.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
