My Project
Our early childhood special education classroom is all about being our best selves: working hard, acting kind, and trying new things!
As the year begins to wind down, we're beginning to get more comfortable with the ways that we can express ourselves through art: painting, drawing, collaging, and more.
We've become experts with lots of process-based work (thing freestyle fingerpainting) and will continue to emphasize those opportunities, but we also want to provide the opportunity for more structured creations: drawings of ourselves, our friends, the bugs that live outside out classroom, and more.
COVID-19 made it tricky for young children to be together, which in turn made it tricky for them to know about themselves: we learn so much about the things we like by being with others. When we have the chance to, say, paint a self-portrait, or create a tape collage of things we love, we not only have rich opportunities for language and academic learning, but also opportunities for the deep, reflective work of existing in a society. What makes us the same, and what makes us different, and how can we celebrate those things? What is special about where we live, and how can we study and care for it?
All of these materials give us the chance to represent and discuss ourselves and our homes in beautiful, unique ways!
