For the past few years, I have used Scholastic News Magazines to help supplement my school's Science and Social Studies curriculum. Scholastic has a wonderful magazine made just for students called Scholastic News. When our project gets funded, each of the students in our 2 second grade classrooms will receive a colorful, informative magazine each week! Students also used the magazines when they were in first grade, so I know that they will be excited to have a new set this year!
Each magazine has a weekly theme that correlates to what we are learning in Science and Social Studies.
Some of this years themes include: the four seasons, hibernation, life cycles, insects, holidays, animal habitats, and much more! These magazines are great resources that are written on level for second graders to understand and be able to read independently. After working on the magazine in class, students will be able to take them home to share with their families. This is a great way to bride the gap between school and home.
