This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you every been to the beach? Explored the life along the shore? My students have not.
Our school is located in downtown Los Angeles.
Students come from low income housing. Yet in spite of the financial challenges, I have a class of eager learners and I feel they will grow up to be contributing adults if they are given the chance. My job is to provide the chance to experience learning in many different ways.
My Project
Can you imagine never having been to the ocean? Many of my students have not touched the ocean though they live 30 minutes away. I would like funding for a bus to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium where I will have the chance to expose the students to the tidepools and the sealife in its natural environment. This opportunity will bring science to life!
As with many school districts across the nation, there have been drastic cuts to our funding.
Field trips have been eliminated in the last budget cut along with 6 incredible teachers from our school. The students are losing the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Learning everything from a book doesn't make it real to them. They view everything as a fantasy. The health of the oceans and the sealife is of no importance to them. Please help!
