This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life and eager to learn.
As the 2019 Teacher of the Year and an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.
My Project
My students love quiet independent reading time and they enjoy stories about adventures of kids their age. They need engaging chapter books, such as The Magic Tree house books for our independent reading time. Having these books available would expose my students to richer language and will help them grow as readers.
Jack and Annie are two incredible kids who love adventures and learning.
The Magic Tree House books are engaging and full of information that will get kids to read. Jack and Annie take the reader on incredible learning adventures. My students and I would love to take those adventures with Jack and Annie.
