Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our middle school are hard working, creative, compassionate, and driven towards excellence. They are eager to take on the challenges of changing our world in a positive way and are ready to use their musical voices as a guiding force in creating change.

The communities we serve are vibrant and diverse.

Although many of our students face daily challenges in the neighborhoods they live in, they do so with optimism, integrity, and pride. As teachers, we strive to give them a place that elevates their voices.

My Project

Students will begin by researching the history of modular synthesis and some of the classic modular synthesizers using the "Backbeat Vintage Synthesizer" book. Next they will use the Korg littlebits Synth Kit to build their own modular synthesizer, exploring the various sounds they can create connecting the different circuits. Finally, students will use the Arturia V collection of digital recreations of some of the world's greatest modular synthesizers to gain in depth experience in programming synths and creating music!

This STEAM project will help students discover the ways in which the worlds of science and music collide, giving them hands on (and ears on!) experience with modular synthesis.

They will then be given a topic (such as the Big Bang theory, dark energy, black holes) and will create and record an original composition, utilizing the synthesis sounds they have created.
