Every Thursday my classroom is transformed into an amazing spectacle. Students are working on RC cars, underwater vehicles, flight simulators, doing dissections, etc... This amazing sight is our science club.
My students are highly motivated members of a science club.
They spend their own time after school to work on many projects. They are all high school students mostly 10th-12th graders. These students set lofty goals and work hard to achieve them. With the right resources they will continue to do amazing things!!!
My Project
My students will use these supplies for two projects. The first involves underwater vehicles. They are attempting to make a remotely operated underwater vehicle that can reach the bottom of Lake Michigan. One of the challenging aspects of this project it developing a camera system. The students have been working with a seaperch and OpenROV kit to develop their expertise. They want to take this project to the next level. The students will be attempting to adapt the waterproof cameras to work at greater depths. Hopefully this will allow them to pilot the ROV at depths that are not visible from the surface.
The other supplies are for an R/C car racing project. The student convert a gas powered car to electric power and then race against other schools. These supplies will help them to engineer solutions to the problems that they encounter along the way. Without the proper tools these students cannot implement their innovative plans.
This project will allow these students to meet their potential.
They need outside support because our club is not funded by school money and our students cannot afford the needed supplies. They learn an incredible amount when they take on these kinds of difficult projects.
