My Students

My students in my art classroom love to create. We have been mixing paint, creating value scales, using art supplies such as crayons, colored pencils, graphite pencils, and markers. I am introducing them to new vocabulary such as monochromatic, tertiary, monoprint, complimentary, neutral, tones, shades, tints, and more. I connect the vocabulary to the real world, not just the art world. It helps them figure out what a word might mean when they see it in a different context. Many of the art techniques and art supplies that we use, these students have never seen or heard of. One student remarked that he had never seen glitter before. This is what I love about these students. They get so excited about the art projects that we do. My classroom gives them the opportunity to use art supplies that they have never used before. I know sometimes creating can be messy, and the clean up a task. In my classroom, they get the opportunity to be messy and they learn the responsibility of cleaning up. They also learn how to care for art supplies.

My Project

Students will be exploring the color wheel. They will be able to see firsthand how mixing primary colors will result in secondary colors. We will then take those newly created secondary colors and mix them with primary colors to give us tertiary colors. From there, we will go into tints, shades, and tones by adding white and black. They will learn printmaking with the paints, they will create a water bottle chandelier using acrylics, and this will be the first time ever using clay! Please support our learning.
