Our school is a Title I school located in Florida. Students are naturally curious and ready to learn. For many of my students, this is their first time in a school setting. This is an exciting and new experience for them.
Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
I currently have eleven students who are eager to learn and challenge their disabilities while preparing for kindergarten. My students are ready to learn, and they are naturally curious to explore the world around them while preparing for kindergarten. I have recently gained several wonderful students who moved to Florida due to the impact of hurricane Maria.
My Project
My students need kid proof cases to help keep our technology safe. We could also use an additional Kindle Fire as our class size has been growing due to an influx of students from hurricane Maria. I would like to give all of my class easy access to the technology we have. The Kindles allow my students to access Kindle's freetime program which has a variety of educational applications and videos relating to early math skills and letters. The micro SD cards allow the tablets to hold more applications for the students to access.
They also would benefit from light filters to help create a more calming learning environment for my students as the fluorescent lighting can be overstimulating to many of my students.
Finally we could use some extra ink for our color printer. Our color printer allows us to print visuals to go along with our daily routine, print materials and visual aides to go with our math, science and literacy curriculum as well as other materials for the class to use. Visuals are very important in our classroom as my students have a variety of learning disabilities ranging from autism, ADHD to Down syndrome. Having these visuals helps them to know what to expect next in our daily routine and to better understand the material being taught. Often, students will need their own visuals to help them through the day. Being able to access my color printer allows me to immediately meet their needs.
