My students need the Watch it Grow Window Greenhouse, See it Grow Plant Lab and Ladybug Land so that they can be hands on in observing step by step the wonders of nature.
My students are a curious bunch of three, four and five year olds. They love to touch and feel everything that they can get their hands on. Today at lunch one of my little boys ate an apple and said, "Look a seed, can we plant it". This curiosity is what makes my classroom such a wonderful place.
My classroom consists of twelve children ranging from ages three to five.
Many of my students are ELL and some of my students have various learning disabilities. My students live in a little town in which their is a high poverty rate. Our town was also affected by Super Storm Sandy. Some of my students are still displaced because of the damage from the storm.
My Project
My students are hands on learners. They will each be able to plant using the Watch-It-Grow Window Greenhouses I ordered. They will be able to observe and chart the growth of the plants everyday. The children will enjoy watching the ladybugs as they crawl and fly through the ladybug habitat. I will be able to educate my students on the life cycle of ladybugs as I read the lady bug book to them. My little engineers will be able to engage in the laws of physics and gravity by using the wall coaster. My scientists will use the talking microscope to look at slides of organisms which will facilitate conversation and help develop language and critical thinking skills.
All of these STEM items will help my students become critical thinkers.
The items will help me, show my students that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is all around them and it can be fun to explore and manipulate.
