Exploring STEM and Creating a Passion

My students need access to STEM materials such as blocks, playstixs, and craft sticks to help them explore the world around them and develop a passion in this area.

My Students

As a teacher of students with Autism and other disabilities my day is always a learning experience. There are 13 children in my class who are 1st through 3rd graders. I work at a Title I school where over half the kids receive free or reduced lunch. My students are bused from other schools who do not have a program to meet their unique needs.

I enjoy seeing the smiles on their face when they get to build and create.

My Project

By creating STEM boxes my early finishers can grab a STEM box and sharpen their interests. It is my hope that the materials purchased such as blocks, playstixs, and craft sticks will help my students explore, create, and engineer when they finish early instead of handing them a worksheet.

I want my students to think like they are inventors.

When their work is finished they will grab a box and follow the task cards to create a project. By using Playstix, building logs, sticks with velcro on the ends,any many other things I already have their minds will be turning and creating. Also having a STEM cart my students will know where to go each and every I ever to grab a STEM activity.
