Exploring Science

My students need science materials such as magnifiers, learning centers, and bucket balances to explore the different science lessons with hands on manipulatives.

My Students

Science is not taught as thoroughly in the primary classroom today as it was in the past. I have a love for science because I was able to explore with manipulatives as a child. I want to instill the same desire in my students by offering science manipulatives that encourage the learning process.

Since the school year has already come to an end, I will share with you a little bit about my class last school year.

This past year was my first year teaching and I grew tremendously. I owe the growth to my students. Without them, I would not have been able to become the teacher I became at the end of the year. Even though I will have a new group of students next year, who I know will be just as precious, I will always remember what my first class helped me accomplish. I saw my students work extremely hard to accomplish their academic goals but more importantly, I witnessed leaders rising up in these little ones.

My Project

This past year was my first year teaching so I was unaware of what I would truly need going into it. As the year went on I noticed that I did not have as much science materials available to my students as I wanted to. I gradually picked things up along the way but a teacher’s salary is not one that can be stretched. So, I would make a lot of the centers and projects for us to use. I created these projects and centers to find out that they are not that durable and probably will not last another year. I located materials I wanted to offer my students and that is why I chose these resources. The hands-on centers offered in the instant learning kits are subjects that we cover in our science curriculum. If my students have a chance to actually work with hands-on projects and centers that pertain to our science lessons, I know they will soon grow to love science. The balance and magnifiers are also manipulatives needed in our classroom to assist with the science lessons.

If this project if funded, my students will have access to science resources that they would not have access to otherwise.

I want to give my students opportunities in the classroom that I know they probably will not have access to elsewhere. Teaching in a Title I school means that the majority of our students will only receive hands-on learning experiences and opportunities at school. I want to help my students have the best learning experience possible, one that they deserve to have.
