This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I serve as a Future Ready Librarian at a bilingual Title I school. We have 750+ students ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade with over 90% coming from low-income backgrounds. One of my professional goals is to further develop our library collection so that my students have access to robotics and quality books about coding.

My students are curious, eager learners who need exposure to robotics and a variety of books which demonstrate real-world examples of coding in our pluralistic society and will help grow their Future Ready skill sets.

Since the majority of my students are English Language Learners, they especially need access to books in a variety of reading levels that will encourage their love of reading and increase their literacy rates.

This project will give my students access to robotics and high-interest STEM books about coding.

Teachers will be able to utilize these high-interest books to create engaging, curriculum-based science and technology lessons. This curated collection of STEM books represents a variety of reading levels so that teachers can scaffold their lessons to best meet the needs of their learners.

Students will be able to read these books in the classroom or at home, encouraging their love of reading while sparking an interest in coding that will help them reach their fullest potential.
