Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching middle school social studies provide me with the opportunity to work with students from various backgrounds to help them become free, independent thinkers. With approximately 60% of our students receiving free and reduced-cost lunch, many of my students are severely impacted, English Language Learners and/or working tirelessly to close their gaps in learning.
My students work incredibly hard, accept whatever academic challenge I throw their way and practice a growth mindset and persistence in the face of adversity.
Many of them have adopted a love for social studies and are well on their way to becoming lifelong, independent learners.
My Project
Students are constantly asking "What happened when..." or " What about..." so why not bring them the materials they need to find the answers? Through literary analysis, students will embark on individual case studies that will transport them back in time to see conflict unfold and the lasting effect it has on survivors.
Students will be able to compare and contrast the impact conflict has on a person, a place, a country, and the world.
All of the books selected for this project were done so to give students an awareness of historical global conflicts as told from the perspective of people in proximity to their age.
